Roma head coach Jose Mourinho blamed the VAR system for the 0-2 loss to Fiorentina. The referee awarded a controversial penalty against the Roman club early in the game.
Mourinho: “What is happening, frankly, is already too much. We want an explanation. We want respect. Explanation? We have been waiting for an explanation for a long time, and we have no explanation.
There are two reasons (defeats). Obviously, after the game on Thursday, we were definitely not physically and mentally strong compared to a team that had a whole week to prepare.
But I want to hear an explanation from Mr. Luke Bows from Livorno [арбитр VAR]. I’ve already seen footage and it’s a touch, not a foul. The referee was there and did not give a penalty. In the VAR room, Mr. Bunty intervened.
Why did the VAR system not call to watch the episode of such a referee as Marko Guida [главный судья], who was 10 meters away and perfectly saw that this was not a penalty? Why? These are the explanations we want but don’t have.
Yes, we are in the final of the European Cup, which absorbs the emotions and energy of a club like Roma. But we also have a league, which is, frankly, too much. What keeps happening with this team is just too much.
Difference when playing vertically? That’s a difference of 14 games that Roma have played more than Fiorentina this season. If we run 10 km a game and 14 games is a lot. It is the difference between intensity and lack of intensity, concentration and lack of concentration. Everything is very simple.
We know we have the respect of the Roma fans, but we also want respect from the Bunties of this world who are sitting in their comfortable chairs and have taken many, many points from this team.”
