Poor Things, the long-awaited film from favorite-director Yorgos Lanthimos, will be shown in September.
Searchlight Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for Poor Things starring Emma Stone and directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. The Frankenstein-style tale is based on the 1992 book by Alasdair Gray.
In the film, Willem Dafoe’s Dr. Godwin brings Baxter Stone’s Bella Baxter to life. Based on Yorgos Lanthimos’ previous production, there will be something entirely different from the traditional interpretation of Frankenstein.
In addition to Stone and Dafoe, Poor Things stars Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott, Margaret Qualley, and Kathryn Hunter.
The screenplay is written by Tony McNamara, who also wrote the 2018 film The Favourite, directed by Lanthimos and which received multiple Oscar nominations.
The three most recent films directed by Lanthimos received praise in Murpopocket reviews:
Review: The Lobster is Colin Farrell’s funniest film
Review: Chilling horror thriller The Killing of a Sacred Deer is Colin Farrell’s finest
Quick review: The Favorite, which has collected 10 Oscar nominations, is nearly a five-star top film from The Lobster director
Poor Things will be released in US cinemas on 8 September. Finnish premiere not yet known.
