The M3gan horror hit, which was made with a budget of $12 million and collected nearly $180 million in ticket sales, is now running in home theaters as well.
The digital retail version of M3gan became available in the morning. The rental version of the film will be released in a couple of weeks on Monday, May 29. There is no word yet on when it will be released on one of the many monthly paid streaming services.
The plot details of M3gan, directed by Gerard Johnstone and written by Akela Cooper, are as follows:
“The M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a lifelike doll programmed to be a child’s best friend and a parent’s ally.” By clever Gemma (Allison Williams of Get Out) who designs robots for a toy company Created, the M3GAN learns and becomes a friend, teacher, playmate and protector of the child it is paired with. When Gemma unexpectedly visits her orphaned 8-year-old niece Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House), When she becomes Cady’s guardian, she finds herself vulnerable and unprepared to act as a parent. Under intense pressure, Gemma decides to combine her M3GAN prototype with Cady’s to solve both problems. could be attempted – a decision that could have unexpected consequences.”
M3gan has earned praise, but journalist Aki Lehti, who wrote a review for Muropocket, was less enthusiastic about the film:
