According to John Durham, a special investigator appointed by the Justice Department, the US Central Criminal Police FBI was on the way when it launched an investigation into Russia’s connections to Donald Trump’s election campaign in 2016. Four year investigation.

The report was published on Monday. Newspapers such as The New York Times and The Washington Post reported on the matter.

Durham criticized the FBI for its haste and lack of analysis. In his 306-page report, Durham wrote in his 306-page report, according to The New York Times, that the FBI “disregarded or deliberately ignored information that did not support the story of a collusive relationship between Trump and Russia.”

– An objective and honest assessment of these scraps of information should have called the FBI into question [tutkinnan] starting point and also to consider whether the FBI was manipulated for political or other purposes.

Nevertheless, Durham found no evidence of political control by the Democrats or any other party, which the Republicans had expected.

Thus, Durham’s report provides far less new information than, for example, the 2019 report by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz. Even Horowitz accused the FBI of numerous errors in the investigation. The FBI has also acknowledged mistakes in its procedures regarding the original investigation and that it has improved its procedures.

Durham, who served as a federal judge, was appointed by Trump administration Attorney General William Barr in the spring of 2019 to familiarize himself with the FBI’s Russia probe.

At the time, the Justice Department’s special investigator, Robert Mueller, had concluded the FBI’s high-profile investigation into ties between Trump campaign staffers and Russia. Mueller found connections but no basis to suspect anyone on Trump’s campaign team of illegal collusion with Russia.

The FBI began its investigation in the summer of 2016, when Trump was just a presidential candidate. He won the election in November 2016 and served as the President of the United States from 2017 to 2021.

The FBI operates under the Department of Justice, so Durham’s job was to conduct his own investigation, which was widely criticized. His investigation also lasted longer than the investigation that was its subject.

In the fall of 2020, Attorney General Barr elevated Durham’s status to special investigator. This allowed him to continue the investigation even after Republican Trump’s administration gave way to Democrat Joe Biden in January 2021.
