Developer Infinity Ward says that one of the most famous Call of Duty maps was initially included in the game by accident.
The Intimate Shipment map was originally added to the game series’ strengths in 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Since then, shipments have appeared in various forms in several installments of the franchise, including last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
Infinity Ward’s director of online games, Geoff Smith, has stated in an interview with the Dexerto website that the shipment was initially included in Modern Warfare by mistake. According to Smith, Shipment was designed purely for split-screen multiplayer, and the map was not actually intended to be released as part of the game.
However, the shipment was being used in the studio’s internal tests, which is why the map was added to the Modern Warfare game list, from where it had to be removed before release. However, Smith says that the multiplayer leader of the game series at the time forgot to remove Shipment from the list before the game was released, which is why Shipment was included in the final release as well.
– It really was an accident, Smith commented on the original release of Shipment.
