An amusing glitch has cropped up in the history of the Call of Duty series, which has only good results in the end.
Call of Duty’s multiplayer map Shipment is one of players’ favorites and has been featured in several games in the series. However, now Infinity Ward design director Geoff Smith has revealed that the map should never have been released in the first place.
As Video Game Chronicle reports, according to Smith, Shipment, originally planned for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, was only to be a split-screen map. The shipment ended up on the multiplayer playlist for internal testing only, but before the game was released, it was forgotten to be removed from the list.
“Our multiplayer manager forgot to remove it when the game went offline, and there’s no going back,” Smith said in a recent interview. “It was a complete accident.”
Shipment is the smallest map in the Call of Duty series, and has already been included in seven releases of the game series. Shipment is also in last fall’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
