Olli Rehn (centre) and Mika Aaltola are also popular.

According to a poll commissioned by Yale, the most popular person to be the next President of Finland is Pekka Haavisto (Green), Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Administration. 28 per cent of the respondents named Havisto as their favorite when they were asked to choose their favorite candidates from a list of 38 names.

Bank of Finland Governor Olli Rehn (center) is in second place with 15 percent support, and Mika Altola, director of the third-most popular Foreign Policy Institute, with 13 percent, according to Yale’s poll.

Haavisto is particularly supported by residents of large cities, people with higher education, and women, according to a Yale survey. On the other hand, Rehaan’s inmate support comes from males aged 65-79 and from smaller towns. Altola is most supported by people over the age of 50 and those with professional training.

Respondents named Haavisto as their favorite across party lines. A good third of those who did not declare a strict party position supported Havisto. Rehan is particularly supported by centrists, but has also gained popularity among coalition members. Altola receives support equally from voters of all parties, but mostly from supporters of basic Finns.

All three have increased their support since the last poll.

Presidential elections will be held in January 2024.

In early May, 1,656 people responded to a survey conducted by Yale Taloustuikma. The margin of error is about two percentage points in each direction.
