A Chinese fishing vessel capsized in the Indian Ocean, around 40 crew members are missing

According to the media, the fishing boat overturned at around 3:00 a.m. Beijing time on Tuesday.

According to the report of China’s official CCTV channel, a Chinese fishing vessel has capsized in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

The crew consists of 17 Chinese, 17 Indonesians and five Filipinos. No crew members have yet been found.

According to Chinese media, the country’s President Xi Jinping ordered the launch of the search and rescue operation. Search and rescue teams have also arrived from Australia and several other countries.

Over the past two decades, China has built the world’s largest deep-sea fishing fleet. Since then, Chinese fishermen have ventured beyond their own territorial waters and have been involved in several maritime disputes and accidents.
