The developer of the mobile game says that the failure of Battlefield 2042 also led to the cancellation of Battlefield Mobile.
Alex Seropian, founder of developer Industrial Toys, told Mobilegamer.biz about the cancellation of Battlefield Mobile. Seropian says mobile game development ended up in a junk pile after Battlefield 2042, released for PC and consoles in 2021, failed to reach the expected gaming audience.
Seropian, also known as the founder of Bungie Studios, says the flop of Battlefield 2042 prompted a re-evaluation of the future of EA’s game series. Battlefield Mobile, planned for the current year, was already beta tested in limited regions, but EA announced in January 2023 that it would cancel development of Battlefield Mobile and shut down the 120-person Industrial Toys that developed the game. was developed.
According to Seropian, the beta test of Battlefield Mobile had gone perfectly from his perspective, but at the time EA was unwilling to invest in getting the game ready for global release. In addition to Battlefield 2042’s poor reception, revised advertising regulations weakened the mobile game’s potential, making user acquisition significantly more expensive.
So far, EA hasn’t revealed its more detailed plans for Battlefield. However, the company stated in 2021 that it planned a Battlefield universe combining multiple games and studios, with development being pitched to Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella.
