In 1988, Ivan Reitman directed the comedy special Twins, which is translated into Finnish as Identical Twins. The sequel was in the works for a long time, but has apparently now been ditched for good, even though almost everything was already ready.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, the actor in the original film, told The Hollywood Reporter about it. The finger has been pointed at Jason Reitman, the late director’s son, who did not want the film to become a triplet.
The idea was that both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito would return to their roles, and the third “twin” would then be Eddie Murphy. Jason Reitman rejected the idea, saying after his father’s death that he didn’t like the idea.
“Jason Reitman fixed it, when his father died, he literally put the project on hold.
His father wanted to do it really badly. I wanted to do it so badly. Danny DeVito wanted to do it very badly. We had funding. When his father passes away, Jason says ‘I never liked the idea’ and holds on to it.
