Even Marvel Studios’ weakest movies have traditionally received at least a lukewarm reception and collected lots of cash for the entertainment giant’s coffers. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania, which premiered in February, was different.
Fear of superheroes has been troubling audiences more and more lately, and this was also noticed by Marvel at the beginning of the year, when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania fell well short of its ticket sales target, and Even the most loyal fans weren’t too enthused about Peyton Reed’s work.
Made for $200 million, Quantumania collected only $476 million in ticket sales. So the film wasn’t an outright flop, but it fell far short of Marvel’s biggest hit and compared to the previous installments in the series, Ant-Man and the Wasp ($622.7 million) and Ant-Man ($519.3 million). was clearly bad.
Beyond that, reviews have been harsh – many have ranked the third Ant-Man as Marvel Studios’ weakest film, along with Eternals.
