Man accused of killing Jere Hamalin, 25, who was missing, to face trial

The case will be heard at the Pohojis-Savo district court on Wednesday.

The trial for the suspected murder of 25-year-old Jere Humalainen will take place on Wednesday at the Varkaus office of the North Savo district court.

IS will follow the proceedings in this matter from around 9.30 am.

A 30-year-old man from Pecsmaki is charged with murder. His mental condition has already been examined before the court proceedings begin.

According to a preliminary police investigation, Jere Hämälainen from Helsinki was murdered on June 14, 2022 in a private apartment in Varkaus. According to preliminary investigation, the person suspected of murder had used sharp weapons like tools.

According to the police, apart from the suspected perpetrator and the victim, there were two other people in the apartment at the time of the incident, but they had no hand in the murder. Everyone in attendance knew each other beforehand, and they spent the evening together at the venue.

After the murder, the suspect loaded the body in a car and drove it to the countryside near Varkus. According to the police, he single-handedly threw the body on the ground.

Hamäläinen was reported missing on June 30, 2022. The police requested to observe Hämääläinen’s movements in order to locate him.

Police said after the preliminary investigation was completed that the suspect in the crime had explained the events and had also helped find the body.

The investigation did not reveal the motive of the act. According to the police, the victim and the suspect were in the same group earlier as well, but no previous enmity had come to the fore.

Based on the IS report, the suspect has committed multiple crimes since his twenties. The judgments prohibit violent debt collection and drug abuse.

The man is convicted of vandalism, aggravated robbery and drug offenses, among other things.

According to IS information, the suspect has ties to organized crime in the North Savo region. He is associated with the Diablos MC, a sub-gang of the Bandidos motorcycle gang. However, as per the understanding of the police, the murder had no link with organized crime.
