Niinisto about freezing accounts: Now we have to think carefully about how to secure the operation of representative offices

Russia’s actions are overshadowed by the sanctions imposed in Finland in limiting the flow of money to the Russian Embassy in Helsinki.

The freezing of bank accounts is a far cry from the restrictions in practice in Finland to limit money flows to the Russian embassy in Helsinki, the republic’s President Sauli Niinisto says.

Now we have to think carefully about how to practically secure the operations of the Moscow embassy and the St Petersburg consulate, says Niinisto.

The Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that Russia has frozen the bank accounts of Finnish embassies in Russia.

Finland has a Finnish embassy in Russia in Moscow and a Finnish consulate in Saint Petersburg.
