Prime Minister of the Ministry of Communications, Sanna Marin (SD) will be awarded an honorary doctorate from New York University (NYU) today. Marin gives a speech at the dedication ceremony on behalf of everyone getting married in the ceremony.
Along with Marin, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry Carolyn Bertozzi, dancer Misty Copeland and former University of Maryland President Freeman A. Hrabovsky will be awarded an honorary doctorate.
Author Salman Rushdie will be presented with the University’s Honorary Medal at the same event. The best-known work of Rushdie, 75, is the 1988 novel The Satanic Verses, which widely angered Muslims. For example, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the then religious leader of Iran, sentenced Rushdie to death.
Rushdie was stabbed to death during a speech in the United States last August.
The event starts at 18:00 Finnish time. It is held at the traditional Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. It is a baseball stadium originally built in 1923, which was completely renovated and opened in 2009.
The stadium’s main users are the baseball team New York Yankees and the soccer team New York City FC.
