Blizzard has officially ended development of Overwatch 2’s PvE game mode.
At yesterday’s developer broadcast, the studio announced that it has shut down Overwatch 2’s long-in-development paid PvE game mode, reports Eurogamer.
The game mode in question was one of the most important aspects of Overwatch 2 when the sequel was announced, but the developers decided to separate it into a separate part in order to have competitive multiplayer for players to play. Since then, not much has been heard about the expected game mode.
According to the developers, development of the PvE mode did not progress as expected, although the studio managed to create “a lot of crazy PvE content”. However, its development would require much more time, so the studio decided to focus on quickly serving users of the current game.
However, the decision doesn’t mean Blizzard is going to completely remove the PvE side from Overwatch 2, it just changes the format. The studio promises to bring cooperative PvE content in the future as part of the game’s seasonal content, some of which is canon and some of which is out there for fun.
