According to the United Nations, more than three billion dollars, ie about 2.77 billion euros, is needed for emergency aid for those who are in Sudan and have been devastated by the violence. The amount has increased significantly as compared to the previous scheme.

The UN says 25 million people, or more than half the country’s population, are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection.

The organization is preparing for more than a million people to leave Sudan this year.

According to the UN refugee agency UNHCR, around 220,000 people have left the country so far. In addition, more than 700,000 people have been internally displaced due to the violence.

The UN says those leaving include those who lived as refugees in Sudan and are now returning to their homeland, most of them in South Sudan.

Fighting broke out in Sudan last month between the country’s army and the paramilitary RSF.
