The Swedish puck giant improved on the season’s best.

Swedish discus thrower Olympic champion and world champion Daniel Stahl improved close to his season’s best of 70 meters in Norrköping on Thursday. Stahl won the race with a result of 69.01.

– Very well through this stage, Staal evaluates his result.

With his result, Stahl, 30, moved up to fourth in the world statistics. Mykolas Alečna of Lithuania threw a season-best 71.00 in Berkeley, California, in late April, and Kristjan Seh of Slovenia won the Doha Diamond League with 70.89 in early May.

Staal is also ahead of Samoan Alex Rose with a result of 70.42.

Staal, who aims to be in top shape for the World Championships in Budapest, has prepared for the season under the coaching of Stefan Jonsson. Their previous coach, Vestin Hafsteinsson, has returned to his home country of Iceland.

– It was sad that Westin ended, but life goes on. I had to look for a new coach, but the collaboration with Staffan has been good so far, Staal said.

– I have to invest in my career for one more year before quitting my job. I’m sure the sequel will do well.

Stahl, who hails from Turku on his mother’s side, will compete at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku on June 13.
