Johnny Depp will next be seen in the film Jean du Barry, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
Johnny Depp was put on Hollywood’s unpopular list because of his legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard. Among other things, Depp lost his role in the Marvel movies and has now taken a break from films for a few years.
This year, Depp returns to the big screen in the film Jean du Barry, directed and starring Maiwen, which had its world premiere at Cannes.
At the Cannes press conference (via Variety), Depp answered a question about whether he felt an outcast in Hollywood.
Depp commented, “I don’t feel ostracized by Hollywood, because I don’t think of Hollywood.”
However, Depp’s answer is mixed. Because before that he says “You’d have to be completely without a pulse if you think that’s not happening, it’s just a funny joke. When you’re asked to leave a film you’ve made, Yes, of course you feel like you are being ostracized.”
With this, he undoubtedly refers to the role of Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts films, which Depp played in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, but Mads Mikkelsen’s The Secrets of Dumbledore was cast instead of Depp.
Jean du Barry will likely be released in cinemas next autumn, but a more precise release schedule has not yet been announced.
