According to the Republican governor, the purpose of the decision is to protect the personal information of Montanans.
In the United States, the state of Montana has banned the use of the Chinese-owned TikTok video app. State Governor Greg Gianforte told about this on Twitter local time on Wednesday.
Lawmakers had already decided on a ban around mid-April, but the decision still needed Gianforte’s signature. Montana is the first US state to make such a decision.
According to the Republican governor, the purpose of the decision is to protect the personal information of Montanans. The data security of Chinese-owned apps has also raised concerns in other Western countries. TikTok is a social media service developed by Chinese technology company ByteDance.
According to news channel CNN, the law is due to come into effect in January, but the appeal is still in court.
