Heavy rains at the beginning of the week caused flooding of about twenty rivers in the Emilia Romagna region. Entire residential and agricultural areas have been inundated, besides hundreds of roads have been damaged and livestock have been drowned.

Water has started receding in some places, while some residents have been successful in returning to their homes after being affected by water and mud. It rained a bit more on Thursday and it is expected to drizzle again on Friday as well.

According to Italy’s Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, it is still impossible to accurately assess the physical damage caused by the floods, as a large part of the area is still under water.
