Nintendo has announced that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold 10 million copies within three days of release. According to the company, this makes it the fastest selling release in the series.
Devon Pritchard, director of sales, marketing and communications for Nintendo, said in a statement:
“We are grateful to all of our fans who have shown their passion for The Legend of Zelda over the years, and sales figures for the latest installment continue to demonstrate strong momentum for both the franchise and Nintendo Switch this year.”

British sales record broken
Market analysis company GfK revealed earlier this week that Tears of the Kingdom is set to have the biggest physical release of any game in the UK in 2023, as well as the second biggest release in UK history in terms of first-day grosses . Link’s latest adventure look is set to break many more records in the months to come.
Nintendo aims for long-term user engagement
In its latest financial results, Nintendo revealed that Switch sales are down.
A Nintendo representative wrote: “The Nintendo Switch is in its seventh year since its launch, and while it will be more and more challenging to maintain the same sales momentum as before, our goal is to give as many consumers as possible the Nintendo Switch for a long time.” resulting in maximum sales. We aim to maintain high levels of user engagement and look after the appeal of not only new software products but previously released titles as well.”
