Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has commented on potentially more powerful versions of the current generation of consoles.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S hit the market in late 2020, which means that 2.5 years have already passed since their release. There have been many rumors about whether even more powerful versions of the console will be released, just like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X were released in the previous generation.
There is no official information about a more powerful console, but now one of the world’s largest game publishers has commented on the matter. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, best known as the GTA publisher, answered a question about more powerful console versions in a recent interview, says Video Game Chronicle.
Zelnick was specifically asked whether he thinks the PS5 and Xbox series consoles will get more powerful versions, and also whether the updated consoles from previous generations have had an impact on game sales.
“We probably get them, and they haven’t had much of an impact on business,” Zelnick replied.
This is clearly not an official announcement, but Take-Two has strong contacts with the entire game industry and probably has inside information about future developments. Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar Games and 2K Games among others, is one of the ten largest game publishers in the world by revenue.
If more powerful versions of Sony and Microsoft’s consoles are indeed released, we can only guess when they’ll be announced, let alone see the light of day. The PS4 Pro was released on time in 2016, three years after the PS4 base model was released. The Xbox One X, on the other hand, came out in 2017, almost four years after the original model.
