MediaTek has collaborated with Nvidia to some extent in the past, and it may bear fruit in the future. AMD on the other hand is a friend of Samsung.
Mediatek reportedly aims to bring Nvidia’s video card technology into its system circuits. The technology is not only coming to system circuits of mobile devices but also to WOA (Windows on Arm) laptops.
According to DigiTimes Asia, Nvidia’s graphics card will be used on the mobile side, at least in the system chip used by the upcoming flagship phone. It may hit the market as early as 2024. Nvidia’s technology will bring not only graphics performance but also artificial intelligence capabilities to MediaTek’s system circuits.
DigiTimes believes that Nvidia is looking for new markets outside of the gaming graphics card and data center markets. Smartphones and WoA laptops may be suitable targets for expansion.
Nvidia’s rival AMD has been working with Samsung on integrated Eclipse graphics cards for several years. They will continue to be used in Samsung’s Exynos system chips.
