NetherRealm Studios has officially introduced the latest installment in the Mortal Kombat series.
The newcomer to the popular fighting game series is called Mortal Kombat 1, and like previous speculations, it’s a re-release of sorts. The plot follows the ending of Mortal Kombat 11, where Liu Kang, the god of fire, recreated the universe.
Mortal Kombat 1 introduces an entirely new story with familiar characters that we’ve already seen for the first time in the announcement trailer. These include Raiden, Kung Lao, Mileena, and Kitana.
The game features a new helper system, where players can ask for help from other fighters in matches. The studio also introduced the game’s first paid expansion, which includes a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for the character Johnny Cage, and indicated the addition of six new fighters after launch.
Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on September 19.
