The epicenter of the powerful earthquake lay southeast of New Caledonia in the Pacific Ocean.
According to the US Geological Survey, a strong earthquake has been detected in the southeastern part of the New Caledonia island group located in the Pacific Ocean.
According to the research institute, the intensity of the earthquake was 7.7.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says the quake has triggered a tsunami warning for coastal areas up to about a thousand kilometers from the epicenter. People in the surrounding coastal areas have been advised to be vigilant.
New Caledonia, located about 2,000 kilometers from Australia, belongs to France.
