According to the district court’s decision, ORK will have to pay a total of about 700,000 euros in compensation to more than 20 people who were defrauded.

Uutissuomalainen reported on Friday that the state is seeking a preliminary ruling from the Supreme Court in a compensation dispute related to the investment scam Wincapita. The Court Registration Center (ORK) under the Ministry of Justice told Utissoomalai that the state has filed an initial ruling appeal application to the Supreme Court against a decision of the district court in Pohjois Savo.

ORK has appealed to the Court of Appeal of Eastern Finland about 24 other decisions related to Vinkapitä by the district court. According to 25 judgments handed down in April by the district court, ORK must pay around 700,000 euros in compensation to more than 20 people who were defrauded.

The state seeks clarity in the interpretation of the law. The idea is that the Supreme Court will consider one case based on a preliminary ruling, and the other cases await a possible preliminary ruling in the Court of Appeal.

Wincapita is considered the biggest pyramid scam in Finland. It is estimated that around 100 million euros were collected from 10,000–12,000 people, says Utisuomelainen.
