Strauss Zelnick, CEO of gaming company Take-Two, believes that Sony and Microsoft will release updated models of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Zelnick commented on the matter in an interview with the GamesIndustry website. He says he thinks it’s likely that the current generation of consoles will receive updated models like the previous ones around the middle of their life cycles.
For example, the more powerful PS4 Pro console model was released to the market three years after the original PS4 was released. The end of the year will mark three years since the current generation of consoles was released, but delivery difficulties early in the devices’ lifecycle could also affect the release schedule of a potentially updated version.
GamesIndustry also asked Zelnick about the effects of console lifecycle updates on Take-Two’s business. According to him, last time the new device model had little effect on, for example, the company that owns the Grand Theft Auto game series.
Zelnick also stated in the interview that Take-Two plans to continue supporting Nintendo’s Switch console in the future. Nintendo is rumored to release its new console model possibly as early as next year, but based on Zelnick’s comments, games for Switch will be released sometime after the new console arrives.
