McCarthy was ousted in a 216–210 vote.
British broadcasting company BBC and American channel CNN, among others, reported that Republican politician Kevin McCarthy has received a departure pass from the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Voting on this matter took place on Tuesday. The result was narrow, as 216 delegates voted in favor of McCarthy’s dismissal and 210 voted against it.
A total of eight Republicans supported McCarthy’s departure.
This is the first time in American history that the Speaker of the House of Representatives has been forced to resign.
The result of the vote is a major victory for the radical wing of the Republicans, whose Representative Matt Gaetz introduced a resolution on Monday to remove McCarthy as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
McCarthy faced the wrath of Republicans over the weekend when he pushed the bill forward with support from Democrats.
McCarthy, 58, begins as Speaker of the House of Representatives in January 2023. Before him there was Nancy Pelosi of Democrat.
