On Monday, pop star Shakira reached a settlement in a court case over suspected tax evasion in Spain. However, the settlement was costly for Shakira, as she would have to pay a fine of 7.3 million euros. The 46-year-old Colombia-born singer also received a three-year suspended prison sentence.
Prosecutors had sought a prison sentence of more than eight years for Shakira, as they believed she had not paid 14.5 million euros in taxes to Spain from 2012 to 2014. Shakira herself claimed that she moved to Spain from the Bahamas only in 2015, although the star bought an apartment for her family in Catalonia in 2012.
